Dance enthusiasts will once again be in for treat when The Playhouse Company hosts the 18th annual Iscathamiya competition on Saturday night, 26 September.

TRADITIONAL dance enthusiasts will once again be in for treat and spoiled for choice when The Playhouse Company hosts the 18th annual Iscathamiya competition on Saturday night, 26 September.

Iscathamiya, the traditional music genre made famous by Grammy award-winners, Ladysmith Black Mambazo has a growing fan base and the competition has become one of the major highlights of Durban’s arts and culture calendar. It brings together music fans and singing groups from all corners of KwaZulu-Natal, as well as from the Eastern Cape. A total of 100 groups are competing for the coveted prize money in the Champs; Standard and Open Section categories.

A fashion extravaganza is another element to the competition for 32 men and women, Onobuhle – beauty queens and Oswenka being male fashionistas. This event promises to be an evening of delight and glamour in the cultural aspect of Isicathamiya.
