Centre hosts music concerts

The Odeion String Quartet and the King David String Ensembe will perform at the Durban Jewish Centre this September.

THERE will be two concerts at the Durban Jewish Centre to start off the month of September.

Friends of Music presents the Odeion String Quartet at the Centre, 44 K E Masinga (Old Fort) Road, Durban, on 8 September at 7.30pm.

The quartet is made up of violinists Samson Diamond and Sharon De Kock, Jeanne-Louise Moolman on viola and cellist, Anmari van der Westhuizen.

The 2014 Kanna and Vryfees award-winning Odeion String Quartet is the only string quartet-in-residence at a South African university. It symbolises the university’s commitment to the arts and plays an important role in the development of music in the Free State.

Their programme includes works Tchaikovsky's String Quartet No. 3 in E-Flat minor, Op.30, Beethoven's String Quartet in e minor, and Rasumovsky's Op.59 No.2.

Prelude Performer will be vocalist, Arliya Peters. Arliya is 17 years old and in Grade 12 at Northlands Girls' High School.

The King David String Ensemble presented by the KwaZulu Natal Zionist Council, performs on 9 September at the Durban Jewish Centre at 7pm.

The ensemble is among the finest chamber ensembles active today.

Comprised of virtuoso string players from the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, including conductor Anita Kamien and piano soloist Roger Kamien, the ensemble has appeared in 30 countries on five continents.
