All star line-up for ECR Home & Garden Show

Don't miss the ECR House & Garden Expo this weekend.

THIS year’s East Coast Radio House & Garden Show boasts an all star line up of TV personalities, industry experts and newly discovered artisans.

MasterChef winner Roxi Wardman will debut her Captain’s Champagne Cheese Cake, with a Cherry Brandy Compote. Inspired by the Vodacom Durban July theme ‘Captain’s Table’ her bespoke recipe will be presented in a toppled over clip jar. “Half of the crumbs will be inside the jar and half out. I’ll also pipe the cheese cake to match. I want to get the effect of the ocean washing up on the shore” said Wardman. “My inspiration to create the dish is because you always have champagne to drink at a captain’s table and the jar represents a ship in a bottle.” Wardman will be creating her dish on Sunday June 28 from 4-5pm at The Kitchen Studio Celebrity Chef Kitchen supported by Defy.

Local ‘material girl’, Lou Harvey, will make her ECR House & Garden Show debut with a showcase of her stylish and colourful collection of bags and accessories, as well as her recently launched Geo weave and Leopard designs. ‘Leopard print is a hot trend at the moment, I love its versatility and the fact that the prints appeal to diverse group of people, explains Harvey”. An exclusive show special of 20% on all her products is expected to be a big draw card to Harvey’s stand.

Anna Savage, organiser of The Morning Trade has invited a select few of her favourite stall operators to take part in the The Kitchen Studio Celebrity Chef Kitchen supported by Defy. The Morning Trade is Durban’s weekly source of farm fresh ingredients and artisan goods.

Celebrity gardener and editor of The Gardener Magazine, Tanya Visser, spearheads the line up of experts who will be taking part in The Gardener LIVE exhibit. Joined by Gerald Schofield, Lindsay Gray or Anna Celliers, the team have tasked themselves with answering all visitors’ troubling garden-related questions. Take along a leaf, twig or flower for the panel to identify and give advice on.

Hirschs will be hosting their Defy Junior Super Chef KZN finals at the show on July 3. The competition, which launched in May this year, has seen children aged 8 and 13 battle it out in Hirsch’s pop-up kitchens around the province in competition for the coveted title. Visitors can watch the young contestants demonstate their cooking skills using a mystery bag of products, cooked on a Snappy Chef induction plate and using a Defy Microwave Air. “Their adaptability is incredible. These kids are 100 steps ahead of us and a lot more sophisticated in their taste and cooking skills than we were at the same age,” said judge and award-winning chef at Harvey’s Restaurant, Andrew Draper.

KZN’s largest home show boasts over 350 exhibitors across six sections: Homegrown Design Fair, The Gardener LIVE, Builders DIY Pavilion, Kidz Zone, Artisan Food, and a Kitchen Zone. Show opens on Friday June 26 and runs until Sunday July 5. For more information visit www.housegardenshow.co.za.
