Handel’s Messiah for Durban Playhouse

The popular Handel's Messiah will be performed at Durban Playhouse on Easter Sunday.

THE internationally acclaimed and well-loved oratorio Handel's Messiah, will be performed live at The Playhouse Company's Opera Theatre on Easter Sunday, April 5 at 4pm.

The storyline for Messiah focuses on the biblical nativity, the crucifixion and the resurrection. So enduring is its popularity that it is now performed every year in many corners around the globe, at venues that range from tiny community halls to the world's leading concert venues.

Featuring the cream of local and internationally-trained opera singers, including Khumbuzile Dhlamini, Bulgarian-born mezzo soprano, Violina Anguelov, Durban-born tenor, July Zuma, and baritone Aubrey Lodewyk, who will be accompanied by massed choirs and the KZN Philharmonic, the production has grown in popularity over the years and is now regarded as one of the major highlights of KwaZulu-Natal's arts calendar.

Easter Sunday's performance of Messiah will be accompanied by the KZN Philharmonic, directed by Ralph Lawson.

The demand for tickets is traditionally high, so early booking is essential.
