Violin symposium for UKZN

A violin symposium will be at UKZN's Centre for Jazz and Popular Music.

TWO internationally renowned violinists, supported by local musicians, will present a violin symposium on Wednesday 25 March at the UKZN Centre for Jazz and Popular Music in Durban from 5.30pm.

All violinists of all levels are welcome to attend the Unisa Music Foundation’s symposiums.

Eddy Marcano, a classical musician and master of South American styles, and Dutchman Tim Kliphuis, a jazz and gypsy specialist are the international presenters. Marcano is also the conductor of the Simón Bolivar Symphony Orchestra in Caracas, Venezuela.

Some of the local musicians who will lead the sessions are Louis van der Watt, members of the Odeion String Quartet and violinists from Durban and Johannesburg.

The symposium consists of workshops and master classes about violin technique, styles, repertoire and improvisation.

Entry is free but students need to register beforehand. The registration form is available on the website www.unisa.ac.za/musicfoundation

The symposium will end with a concert featuring celebrated violinists Tim Kliphuis (The Netherlands) and Eddy Marcano (Venezuela) at The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music (CJPM) Level 2, Shepstone Building. UKZN Howard College Campus UKZN.
