Classical guitarist performs in Durban

Classical guitarist, Derek Gripper, will perform at Alliance Francaise on 10 October.

DON'T miss Derek Gripper in concert at Alliance Française de Durban, 22 Sutton Crescent, Morningside, on 10 October at 6pm.

Derek Gripper's last visit to KZN in 2011 saw him accompanied by world renowned tabla master and student of Ravi Shankar, Udai Muzamdar. Since this visit Derek has been busy redefining the nature of classical guitar, most notably in his release of an album called One Night on Earth late in 2012. It was the first time a classically trained guitarist had tackled the repertoire of the West African harp called the kora.

The reception of One Night on Earth has led to invites to play in the US, UK, Turkey, Sweden, Norway, Holland, Switzerland, Denmark, France, Ireland, Swaziland, Zimbabwe and of course in Derek’s home of South Africa. Cost is R100 and R80 for Alliance française members. Cash bar and dinner available. Contact 031 312 9582.
