Pedestrian killed as car veers out of control

A pedestrian was killed this afternoon after being struck by an out of control vehicle on Old Main Road.

A PEDESTRIAN was killed this afternoon when a vehicle travelling from Malvern towards Escombe on Old Main Road mounted the pavement and struck him before smashing into the street name pole and plunging over the side of the road and over a vibracrete wall and landing in the swimming pool of a residential property.

According to the emergency services on the scene, the man walking along the pavement was killed while the driver of the vehicle, described by bystanders as an elderly man was taken to hospital. He was not critically injured.

Late afternoon traffic was affected and a second accident further down the road towards Malvern and within sight of the first accident added to traffic congestion.

  1. Our family are extremely saddened and at a loss by this freak accident. Tobias was a decent, respectful, gentle soul who was killed by this wreckless driver who came out unscathed of the havoc he caused. Tobias not only worked for us ocassionally, but was a dear friend who felt like family. Tobias was well known in Queensburgh and for all who knew him, there will forever be a void. R.I.P Tobias. We will miss you!!
