Artists for change

Sanna Naidoo's art will be on display at the Menzi Mcunu Art Gallery.

AN exhibition by Sanna Naidoo: Artists for Change, will open on Wednesday, 27 August at 6pm at the Menzi Mcunu Art Gallery at the Bat Centre.

Naidoo’s art generally, and her pen and ink sketches in particular, allow her to express deeply felt sentiments about personal, political and gendered injustices. Apparent in this exhibition, she continues in post-apartheid South Africa to paint and draw pictures of oppression, hope and ‘emancipatory moments’.

Within South Africa, her work was mainly used for many years by Speak and Agenda, the feminist journals, and by affiliates of COSATU. Her vibrant and expressive drawings, however, also found their way into international activist media, in Italy, the USA, the Netherlands, Sweden and Norway. She was also invited to Germany, as a member of COSAW, to read poetry and display her art.

Sanna’s exhibition runs until 19 September. Gallery hours are Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm. Entrance is free.
