Dutch guitarist, Jim Gorissen, brings you jazz with Latin and Flamenco inlfuences at two shows in Durban .

DUTCH rhythm guitarist Jim Gorissen performs with a Durban band on Saturday 2 August at Jazzy Rainbow, 93 Smiso Nkwanyana (Windermere) Road, Morningside from 7pm and on Friday 15 August at KZNSA Gallery, 166 Bulwer Road, Glenwood from 6pm.

Jim Gorissen began playing the guitar and arranging music as a boy of thirteen. He focuses mainly on Latin American music and is always on a search for the jazz element in this style. Brazilian music with its rhythmic drive and swing also gets his attention. The syncopated rhythm patterns of the Samba, the Bossa Nova and the modern Partido alto appeals to him most of all. “Rhythm” as a driving force in the World Music as a whole keeps fascinating him. It was inevitable that also Flamenco became one of his big inspirations.

In Durban the Dutch guitarist brings you jazz with Latin and Flamenco influences. He will have a strong Durban band behind him with highly respected musicians, Mike Mazzoni and Paki Peloeole on drums, Ildo Nandja on bass, Richard Ellis on percussion and Shemual Mahabeer on keys. On vocals the band will be joined by Durban diva Thulile Zama, from Heels over Head, and powerful voice, Shomon.
