Freaky Friday video: Great white chomps on inflatable boat

Watching a great white shark munching on your inflatable boat like a chew toy just metres from your very vulnerable human flesh is the stuff of nightmares. So why is this South African film crew so calm in the face of what appears to be certain danger?

The reason why these guys kept their cool is probably because they knew they weren’t in much danger. The boat looks like it’s a RIB, a Rigid Inflatable Boat, meaning it has a rigid central section with a tube running the perimeter of the boat for extra flotation.

The tubes are usually in four or five  separate sections for safety. The boat can float and operate quite nicely, though with reduced speed and not at bad weather, with all sections deflated.
