Art and soul

Local artists feature in two exhbitions at artSPACE Gallery.

There will be a Walkabout by artists on Saturday, 31 August starting at 11am at the artSPACE gallery, 3 Millar Road (off Umgeni Rd).

The group show, Portals will be showcased in the main gallery, featuring the works of Di van Wyk, Sharon McClelland and Ockert Kruger. Portals represent the opening to a new reality or world. The exit or entrance into an alternative space or time both physically and emotionally. The artists have symbolized this movement of space, time and the unknown, through the various mediums and images and how these dynamics work within a group. Each of the three artists use the same photograph and do their own interpretations of each image.

Janine Holloway presents a group of paintings of the Heart in her exhibition “Heart and Soul”, showcased in the Middle Gallery. In it she has used a broad range of painting techniques and processes to explore and reveal different aspects relating to the heart. The Soul represents the life force and spiritual strength of an individual. In Janine’s work the richness of colour, depth of layering and dynamic interaction with the surface of the painting is dramatic. In achieving this, she has documented both the cerebral complexities of her journey, combined with her own emotional experience of the subject.

Both exhibitions are open until 7 September at 2pm.
