Glenwood catches pickleball fever

Glenwood locals refuse to be left behind when the rest of the country is jumping on the pickleball wagon. Glenwood Tennis Club is the place to be every weekend, where young and old and beginners and professionals gather for a match or two.

EVERY Sunday, Windsor Tennis Club in Glenwood becomes a hive of activity, fun and sweat when more than 30 ballers come to play. This gathering has become a norm since the launch of the game in March this year.

Pickleball possesses many of tennis’ strategies, however, it requires less body exertion and takes place on a smaller size court. The actual tennis court is divided into four to make it possible for four games to be played at once by up to 16 people in singles or doubles. The racket is smaller, resembling a boat paddle while the ball is made of plastic and resembles a Wiffle Ball.

The man behind the concept of Pickleball-Windsor, Juan Joubert, is excited about the turnout he witnesses every week. “Pickleball is really becoming popular, and we are excited that Windsor Tennis Club has afforded us a tennis court that we could convert and host games, and themed parties,” he said.

“All ages are welcome from beginners to advanced, and groups can come for parties, team-buildings and school extramural activities. We open every day for court rentals, but we are open for social days on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and weekends.”
