#LockdownLevel4: Durban runners have their say

Local runners say they are enjoying being to get out and run again.

CYCLISTS, joggers and walkers took their first steps outside their homes last week taking advantage of the eased lockdown regulations after being stuck at home for weeks.

Berea Mail asked some of its runners and walkers about how their exercise routines had now changed now that the province had moved to level 4 lockdown.

Adrienne Weerheim: Prior to the lockdown I was running three to four times a week so I must say I wholeheartedly welcome the freedom to get out and exercise on the road again. It’s been awesome to be able to get back out again. As a runner I feel so much safer because there are far fewer cars on the road and I’ve enjoyed being able to say ‘Good Morning’ to people again. Being stuck in lockdown you forget about the smaller things.

Mark Reeves: During the lockdown I had been running within the confines of our complex so it feels great to be able to get to run on the streets again. While I relish the time to exercise outdoors and outside my house I do feel the government could look at introducing an evening session between 6pm and 8pm to allow shift workers who missed out on an early morning run, cycle or walk the time to get a chance to take advantage of the easing of restrictions.

Dom Akal: I did enjoy my first run outside my property since the lockdown was started but I do feel trying to cram all your exercise in the time period given is rather difficult. I start work promptly at 8am so I have very little time to exercise and get ready for work. On my morning runs I have noticed an increase in people exercising and perhaps the risk of transmission could be increased with the high number of people out and about. I would also urge everyone to wear masks, or buffs to cover their faces. I know it’s hard but we have to follow the rules when working out.
