Cardinals complete successful season

Cardinals junior baseball U10s excelled in the recent season.

THE new Cardinals Baseball Club junior U10 side completed a highly successful season in the KZN Junior Baseball Friendship League.

The players, aged between five and 10 years old were new to the game at the start of the season but their performance in the league showed off their remarkable improvement in fielding and batting over the course of the season.

“Fielding started to result in achieving many outs of the opposition batters which included a memorable double play and triple play by infield players. All of the players improved their batting to the point where they were able to get safe to first base, and the runs abounded. Home runs became the order of the day!” said head coach, Sharon Purchase,

The last league game was held on Saturday followed by a KZN prizegiving. The Cardinals prizegiving followed where individual achievements were recognised. The most improved new players awared was shared by Kayl Rodriques and Declan Correia, the most improved young players was shared by Declan Dancer, Kaiden Shrives and Bentley Steenkamp, the most improved batter, went to Alex Pravlis. Catch of the Year, was awarded to Aiden Khaleel, third baseman of the year, awarded to Zack Dancer, second baseman of the year, went to Jude Purchase, Sportsman of the Year, was awarded to Ethan Lavis, Fielder of the Year, went to Carter Grady and Most Valuable Player of the year was Liam Scott.

Appreciation Awards were given to assistant coaches Mathew Dancer, Mike Brown and Gareth Purchase for their invaluable input.
