Quins lose to Umzinto

This coming weekend sees the penultimate round of the 2019/2020 season.

FIVE of Harlequins Cricket Club’s teams were engaged in league match activity during the past weekend.

The first team travelled to Umzinto to verse a composite team in a 50 over match. Quins’ batsmen in the top and middle order provided decent contributions. Jeran Pallai made 20 runs, Sheldon Spindler got 34 runs Rahul Bahoti managed 16 runs, but the most energetic innings came from Sylvester Sauli who struck four sixes and two fours, making 42 runs.

Quins made 134 runs in 44 overs.

Quins’ unbalanced bowling attack comprising just one fast bowler, three medium pacers and two spinners were unable to dismiss Umzinto prior to them surpassing Quins’ total for the loss of six wickets in the 36th over. The most successful Quins bowler was medium pacer Mubeen Noorgat, who took two wickets for 15 runs in four overs, and the most penetrative bowler was Sylvester Sauli. Brandon De Mellion took a top catch off his own bowling.

Other team results: Quins’ 2nds gained a walkover against DUT; Quins’ 3rds beat Merebank’s first team; Quins’ U11s lost to Crusaders 3; Quins’ U13s beat Pinetown in a youth league match.

This coming weekend sees the penultimate round of the 2019/2020 season in which the U13, sixth team and second side play semi-final matches in a 20-over format. The thirds take on UKZN’s 3rds, and the fourth side verse Merebank 1. Quins’ first team travel to Gledhow to play the final 50-over match of the current season.
