THE last round of the Ethekwini Men’s Major League Softball took place last week, treating spectators to some nail-biting action.
With just one point between them, Baracuda and Cardinals had everything to play for in the men’s division. Both teams beat Cubs and Royals respectively, making Baracuda the new Ethekwini champions.
With one more round of fixtures to play in the Ladies Major League, Warriors remain unbeaten after their win against Falcons and are the 2020 Ethekwini Women’s Major League champions.
Thursday 19 March sees the last fixtures of the season.

The KZN Softball teams for the upcoming National Provincial Championships in Secunda have been announced.
The Men’s team, KZN Heat includes Grant Olivier, Tim Lee, Daniel Crouch, Cameron Dubber, Mark Olivier, Tyron Stoltz, Reece Nyland, Wesley Ashenden, Dylan Ebrahim, Jordon Atkin, Courtney Rogers, Gareth Purchase, Matthew Parkinson, Richard Knoop and Callum Yates. Coached by Paul Whitfield, the team has strong balance between youth and experience and is looking to improve on its silver medal achieved in 2019.
The ladies team, KZN Blitz, includes Kelleigh Williams, Zoleka Ngcebo, Meg an Lavender, Kayleigh Du Toit, Julia Meaker, Hannah Carney, Hannah Shirley, Ronelle Buitendag, Nicolle Williams, Chelsea Jarrett, Kelsey Carter, Zoe Fourie, Danica Dyer, Jenna Struwig, Tayla Pearce, Robyn Lee and Taya Sterkenburg. With 8 students in the team, head coach Derek Nyland has an exciting unit looking to medal at the championships.
