Seven wicket loss for Quins

Quins lost to Hillary Malvern in a league match on Sunday.

ALL Harlequins Cricket Club’s official lower league cricket matches were cancelled as a consequence of intermittent rain, however on Sunday, the second and the fourth teams played unofficial matches against competent opposition, and the first team took on Hillary Malvern in a 50-over match.

In the first team encounter, Quins were instructed to bat first. The top order were unable to execute any successful attacking strokes, and only three middle order batsmen managed to acquire double figures through Brandon De Mellion who top scored for Quins with a well grafted innings comprising 17 runs. Aziz Khan made 14 runs, but was unfortunately run out, and Kevin Kettle struck a dozen runs. Quins were dismissed for just 67 runs in 40 overs.

Hillary Malvern’s response in the afternoon session was clinically effective. Ryan Vaughn struck a quarter of a century and Garth Chislett survived a vociferous caught behind appeal from the entire Quins team to end up undefeated with 26 runs, to take Hillary Malvern through to an easy victory by seven wickets. Best of Quins’ bowlers was medium paced seamer Faiyaz Safri who conceded just seven runs in five overs.

Mention must be made of the fourth team’s seam bowler Terrence Hook who claimed a hat trick of wickets.

All Harlequins cricket teams have league matches at the weekend aside from the U13 side. The firsts and fifths are at home.
The club hosts its sixers extravaganza and awards function during the first weekend of April.
