Paddling for a cause

Neil Patterson and Anthony Baird, competing in their 17th Dusi Canoe Marathon this year, will raise funds for the Sailors' Society.

TWO paddlers will tackle the FNB Dusi Canoe Marathon to raise funds for the Sailors’ Society.

Neil Patterson and Anthony Baird are competing in their 17th Dusi Canoe Marathon this year, and have both decided to dedicate their race to the cause. The Dusi, the grueling three-day canoe race from Pietermaritzburg to Durban, takes place this year from 27 to 29 February.

The Sailors’ Society cares about the personal, professional and spiritual needs of merchant mariners around the southern African coastline. It provides a wide spectrum of support services reaching out to crew members and engaging with them in any way they can.

Anthony is a Dusi silver medalist and Neil is a Master paddler and recipient of the Player Pearce Medal. Both are eager supporters of the society.
