Quins win league match

All seven of the club’s teams were involved in league match activity at the weekend.

ALL seven Harlequins Cricket Club’s teams had league matches scheduled for the past weekend.

On Sunday morning, Quins’ first team took on Newlands’ first team in a 50 over a side KZNCU promotion league match. Newlands were dismissed for 108 runs in 26 overs. Fast bowler Kevin Kettle claimed five wickets for 29 runs off 10 overs, quick bowler George Bronkhorst captured two wickets for 49 runs in 10 overs and medium paced off cut bowler Mohamed Patel bowled effectively for the duration of three overs taking two wickets for five runs.

A 50 run partnership between Quins’ upper middle order batsmen Aziz Khan and Fayaz Safri who scored 25 and 26 runs respectively was anything to report about. Quins surpassed the target in the 29th over earning four log points for the victory and a bonus point for achieving their target in just 29 overs.

Other team results: Quins’ 2nds beat DHS Rhythm, continuing a good season that has seen the team take victories in seven of their eight encounters thus far.

Quins’ 3rds vs Silver Saints: Quins won by five wickets. Quins’ 4ths vs Phoenix 3: both teams mutually agreed to abandon the match due to persistent rain.

Quins 5ths vs Rhythm 6: Rhythm 6 won by 5 wickets. Quins’ U13 youth league match was cancelled on account of inclement weather.

Quins’ 6ths vs Crimson 3: Quins 6 won by seven wickets.
