Quins’ take on warm-up matches

This weekend sees the start of the second half of the current cricket season.

TWO of Harlequins Cricket Club’s teams had unofficial warm-up matches on Sunday, 5 January.

The fourth team had a successful match against Durban Cricket Club at Highbury Road and a combined first/second team had a 40 over match against AK Hardware from Josini.

In the match against AK Hardware, Quins batted first. Opening batsman Aziz Khan top scored for Quins with 52 runs, middle order batsmen Tyler Jordan scored 36 runs and Mohamed Patel made 36 runs in an undefeated innings comprising some dynamic strikes over the clubhouse at mid-wicket as well as some powerful straight drives. Quins managed 218 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the 40 over allocation.

In contrast, AK Hardware’s batting was splendid with two of their batsmen compiling noteworthy innings, the consequence of which allowed AK Hardware to advance beyond Quins’ target losing just six wickets in 32 overs. Quins lost by four wickets.

The most successful bowler for the home team was part time right arm orthodox slow bowler Momedtalha Motlalha who captured three wickets for 25 runs in four overs. Medium paced seam bowler Faiyas Safri captured two wickets for 50 runs in eight overs and quick bowler Kevin Kettle captured a single wicket for 24 runs in five overs, and also executed a run out.

This weekend sees the start of the second half of the current cricket season with Quins’ U13 team taking on Hillary Malvern in a 30-over-a-side youth league match at Harlequins from 8.30am on Sunday. The first team plays a 50 over promotion league match at Chatsworth 114, and the second team plays DUT at Harlequins 1 from 1pm in a 40-over-a-side division two match up.
