Quins lose final T20 encounter

Harlequins Cricket Club lost to Lindelani in its final T20 over group match.

FIVE of Harlequins Cricket Club’s teams had league matches at the weekend.

On Sunday morning, Quins’ first team took on Lindelani in their final T20 over group match. Quins’ top order batters performed admirably, with Daniel Smuts making a quarter century, Sheldon Spindler managing 24 runs, Faiyaz Safri made 47 runs, Momadthala Motala scoring 18 runs and Mohammed Patel striking two sixes and a four in his brisk innings of 20 runs, to take Quins through to a plausible total of 174 runs for the loss of eight wickets.

In response Lindelani used home advantage to achieve a victory with two deliveries remaining, losing just three wickets. Bowler Daniel Smuts, who captured two wickets for 31 runs in four overs, was the most successful bowler and Mohamed Patel was the most economical bowler for Quins.

Other team results: Quins 2nds versed Umlazi 2: Quins made 195 runs for the loss of one wicket. Umlazi was dismissed 46 runs shy of the target.

Quins 3rds versed Newlands East 3: Newlands East scored 178 runs in 27.4 overs; Quins won by five wickets and is at the top of the Division 2 log.

Quins 4ths versed UKZN 3: Quins made 161 runs in 26 overs. UKZN won by five wickets with no deliveries remaining.

Quins 6ths versed Pinetown: Pinetown made 169/7 in 30 overs; Quins made 170/6 with two overs to spare.

All Quins’ teams have league matches this weekend aside from the first and sixth teams.
