Early victory for Quins

Best bowler for Quins was Kevin Kettle who captured two wickets for 20 runs off four overs.

HARLEQUINS Cricket Club teams played five league matches during the course of the previous weekend.

The first team travelled to Crawford College to take on Railways from Tongaat in a T20 group match on Sunday morning. Sheldon Spindler was undefeated at the conclusion of the innings with 83 runs. George Bronkhorst scored 23 runs off just 17 deliveries, Fayaz Safri scored 35 runs and Brandon De Meillon was undefeated with 15 runs. Quins scored 170 runs in 20 overs losing three wickets.

The Harlequins Cricket team after beating Railways: (back) Kevin Kettle, Brannon De Meillon, Mohamed Patel, Stuart Watt, George Bronkhorst, Rahul Batohi, (front) Faiyaz Safri, Aziz Khan, Corbin Stubbs, Mohmadtalha Mothala, and Sheldon Spindler.

Quins’ bowlers performed admirably against a Railways team whose composition seemed very different to the teams which Quins last versed during the 2017- 2018 season. Best bowler for Quins was Kevin Kettle who captured two wickets for 20 runs off four overs, and Mohamed Patel captured two wickets for 20 runs off three overs. Both were instrumental in removing the top five in the Railways batting line-up exposing a very weak lower middle order who were unable to surpass the set target, falling 11 runs short, and losing 5 wickets.
