Mokoka back to tackle Durban 10k run

“The FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN always brings fast athletes to South Africa and is one of the reasons why I like racing in Durban.”

SOUTH African 10km and half marathon record holder, Stephen Mokoka, is ready to challenge runners at the 2019 FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN on Sunday, 13 October.

After running his 5th best ever half marathon time in July to win the national title (60:57), Mokoka, a month later, became only the second South African to break 60 minutes when he ran 59:50 in Buenos Aires. His time will become the new SA Record as the times of 59:20 and 59:40 of Hendrick Ramaala were run on an aided course.

“The FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN always brings fast athletes to South Africa and is one of the reasons why I like racing in Durban. The FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN is 8 days after my marathon in Doha (World Championships), but because of the conditions in Doha, I am not expecting a fast race. So I know I will be ready for Durban,” said Mokoka.

Mokoka has raced the FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN since inception in 2017 finishing 4th and 6th in 2017 and 2018 respectively. On both occasions, Mokoka was the first South African across the finish line. His time of 28:18 in 2018 was also his 4th best time ever over the 10km.

The FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN on 13 October starts at Blue Lagoon (Athlone Drive) and finishes at the Beachfront Precinct near The Bike and Bean. Visit: www.durban10k.com.
