Shova training schedule for cyclists

Cycle Lab is offering safe training rides in preparation for the Tsogo Sun Amashova.

CYCLE Lab, an official partner of the oldest classic cycle race, the Tsogo Sun Amashova, will be offering KZN based cyclists free and safe training rides every Saturday from 7 September until 12 October.

Cyclists can take to the road with total peace of mind thanks to Cycle Lab’s safety vehicle following the group. Leading at the front to set the tone and pace will be Cycle Lab’s experienced group leaders. Cyclists can choose to participate in a shorter ride of 30km to 40km or a longer rider of 70km to 80km starting from the Mugg & Bean at either Suncoast Casino or Hillcrest.

Apart from the usual distances being offered to cyclists on 20 October of 35km, 65 and 106km, this year’s Tsogo Sun Amashova marks the inaugural relay race on the 160km route where teams of two riders can race the new longer distance introduced last year, with the changeover point being at the 65km start in Cato Ridge.

Entries are open and the closing date for online entries is 19 September at 11pm. Riding for a cause has always been an important part of the Tsogo Sun Amashova, but this year riders are encouraged to take ‘riding for a cause’ to new heights by registering their fundraising efforts on the GivenGain platform. For further assistance regarding the race, email: melissa@amashova.co.za.

The schedule of training rides are:

· Saturday, 7 September: Mugg & Bean Suncoast (start at 5.30am)

· Saturday 14 September: Mugg & Bean Hillcrest (start at 6am)

· Saturday 21 September: Mugg & Bean Suncoast (start at 5.30am)

· Saturday 5 October: Mugg & Bean Suncoast (start at 5.30am)

· Saturday 12 October: Mugg & Bean Hillcrest (start at 6am)

Rides start at the advertised time and anyone that gets there late misses the ride. Cyclists must plan to get there 15 to 20 minutes before the start time.
