MOUNT Edgecombe Country Club (MECC) hosted the interschools South African Disabled Golf Association (SADGA) competition for disabled children recently.
The club, which is known as the ‘proud home of SADGA’, hosted the association’s First Swing Programme that exposes children with disabilities to the game of golf. The event saw aspiring young golfers with various disabilities compete against each other in a spirited competition on a modified golf course that included a series of golf and sport related activities including putting, throwing and kicking.
More than 50 disabled children from Open Air School, Mason Lincoln School, and RP Moodley School participated in the event that was sponsored by Canon South Africa.
“It is an honour to continue playing a role in the lives of these children and to support SADGA and the amazing work they are doing through this event. Not only does this particular event bring such great joy to these children – but it also builds critical life skills for these learners with special needs,” said Desiree Stone, CEO of Mount Edgecombe Country Club.
