Drummies crowned champions at nationals

The team is made up of 21 girls from local primary schools.

THE Durban Junior Majorettes recently did their coaches and province proud when they were placed first at the Champions of Champions President’s League.

The team, which was started last year by Keith Alho, Durban Girls’ High School coach, has gone from strength to strength. The team is made up of 21 girls from local primary schools.

Last year, the team came third in KZN at the South African Majorettes and Cheer Leading Association (SAMCA) Provincial Tournament, and were invited to the Nationals in Outschoorn and were placed 14th. This year the girls improved, coming second at the SAMCA tournament, and excelling at the Nationals in East London, where they placed first in drill, received gold for non-prop, bronze for mace group, silver in the flag group, silver in baton and were crowned 2019 primary champions in the President’s League

The team has been elevated to the elite division where they were go up against schools from other provinces.

The season kicks off again on 1 August, and girls are invited to join the team. If you enjoy music, dancing, performing and working as a team, all while having fun, then drum majorettes is the sport for you. Girls are able to achieve KZN, SAMCA and Protea Colours.
