Kingsmead stadium to host England

Kingsmead will host England in two fixtures next summer.

KWAZULU-NATAL cricket fans can look forward to two high quality internationals when the Standard Bank Proteas host England in Durban for a One Day International (ODI) and a T20 International in February next year.

The ODI will take place on Friday, 7 February, followed by the T20 International on Friday, 14 February, and Durban will once again be a popular destination for England’s famous Barmy Army travelling supporters.

The rivalry between England and South Africa will be in the spotlight this month when these two sides face one another in the opening match of the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup at the Oval next Thursday.

Cricket fans will be eagerly anticipating the arrival of the English for what promises to be another very competitive series.

The International Cricket Council rated Kingsmead the best international venue last summer, and Strydom says the matches reflected the high standards set at the Durban ground.

“The white ball internationals were both excellent contests, thanks to the very good pitches and outfields that were prepared for the matches,” CEO of KZN Cricket Heinrich Strydom said.

He added that the Durban cricket fans have earned a reputation for being discerning cricket followers, but said that they rally behind their Hollywoodbets Dolphins players involved in international matches.

Andile Phehlukwayo and David Miller are the two Dolphins players that are important cogs in the current Proteas line-up. Having a few local players in the mix will be another draw card for spectators this summer.
