Fundraising cyclists determined to meet R2m goal

A R2 million fundraising target was set ahead of the ‘ride with purpose’ and before fundraising draws to a close, the peloton are determined to achieve their goal.

WHILE the Ride for MRP Foundation becomes a distant memory for the 72-strong peloton and their supporters, the gritty cyclists still have one more mountain of a challenge to overcome.

A R2 million fundraising target was set ahead of the ‘ride with purpose’ and now, with just one month to go before fundraising draws to a close, the peloton are determined to achieve their goal.

To date the Ride has raised just over R1.8 million. Funds will be used to break the cycle of poverty and inequality in South Africa, through MRP Foundation’s education and skills development programmes, which empower tens of thousands of youth.

To help the cyclists achieve their R2 million fundraising target, CMH Nissan Durban is giving away a brand new Nissan Micra.

For just R20 you could be sporting a new set of wheels, and you will make a huge impact on a young life.

On 2 and 3 December 2018, a determined and diverse peloton made up of individuals and teams comprising masters, juniors, women and development riders, as well as the first international rider, took to the roads, cycling from Secunda to Durban in just two days.

The 606 km ride with purpose is a two-day stage ride. It is deemed by many as South Africa’s toughest cycle ride. With a total of 26-hours of cycling time, courageous riders overcame extreme heat as well as mental and physical fatigue, as they banded together to complete the ninth edition of the annual Ride for MRP Foundation.

SMS “MICRA” and your full name to 38417 at a cost of R20 per SMS (free SMSs do not apply) or enter via Zapper (on your smartphone) at R20 per entry. Competition closes at midday on 30 March.
