Enter Run The Rivers 2019

Sharing many of the trails cut for the Euro Steel Drak Descent MTB race, the runs follow the course of the uMzimkhulu River.

TRAIL runners from across the country will descend on the Southern Drakensberg for the popular GWK Run The Rivers Trail Running Festival that forms part of the FNB Drak Adventure Weekend on 19 and 20 January.

Sharing many of the trails cut for the Euro Steel Drak Descent MTB race, the runs follow the course of the uMzimkhulu River that plays host to the N3TC Drak Challenge canoe marathon on the same weekend.

While the trails follow the descent of the river, there is a fair amount of climbing and a variety of different technical demands for the runners, taking the athletes through forest, grasslands and local farmlands alongside the river.

The snowballing popularity of the trail run has paved the way for a shorter option on each day, called the GWK Run The Rivers Lite race, which offers trail runners roughly half the distance covered by the main race each day.

GWK Run the Rivers Trail Run distances are the day one 25km event on Saturday, 19 January, and the 16km day two event on Sunday, 20 January. Cost is R400 for both days.

The GWK Run the Rivers Lite Trail Run day one 12km event is on Saturday, 19 January and the 8km event is on Sunday, 20 January. Cost is R400 for both days.

There is currently no closing date for the GWK Run the Rivers Trail Runs.
