Southern Natal thrash Quins

Harlequins Cricket Club's first team lost to Southern Natal in a match on Sunday.

UMBILO Harlequins Cricket Club’s first team took on Southern Natal in Port Shepstone in a reduced 35 over encounter on Sunday.

Quins elected to send the opposition in to bat first on a yielding sticky wicket which proved difficult to execute any drive strokes forward of the stumps. Quins’ strike bowlers were successful in their initial combined spell of eight overs. However Quins’ medium pacers failed dismally in delivering with the accuracy required to dislodge Southern Natal’s Alvin Naibushen who scored 29 runs and number four batsman Ashley Lombard who executed an array of powerful strokes inclusive of six sixes and five fours.

Southern Natal was dismissed in 32,5 overs with a good total of 152 runs. Quins’ strike bowlers were successful in their endeavours with fast bowler Kevin Kettle capturing two wickets for 13 runs in six overs. Yousuf Godil who got four wickets for 18 runs and Andrea Dal Moro with four wickets for 16 runs.

Southern Natal’s spinners were just too good for the Quins’ batting line-up. Brandon De Mellion top scored for Quins with 19 runs. Most of Quins’ batsmen were unable to negotiate their opposition’s slow bowlers, allowing Southern Natal a victory by 89 runs by the 29th over.

Other team results: Quins’ 3rds versed Merebank: Quins scored 190 runs, Merebank’s first team were dismissed for 154 runs. Quins won by 34 runs.

Quins’ U11s fielded versed Amanzimtoti Cricket Club’s U11s: Quins scored 38 runs; ACC won by 10 wickets.

Practices for U11s commence on Friday, 18 January. New members are welcome.

All teams have concluded their official schedule of matches for the first half of the current season, however senior practice sessions are held on Tuesdays and Fridays at the Harlequins nets. Contact Ernest on 031 467 3270.
