Haw hoping to be on Scottburgh MTB start line

Defending ladies champion of the Sappi Scottburgh MTB and Trail Running Weekend's 45km marathon Bianca Haw will be hoping that she can be back to defend her crown.

DEFENDING Sappi Scottburgh MTB and Trail Running Weekend ladies champion Bianca Haw will be hoping that she can get back to the South Coast holiday town from Bloemfontein for the 45km marathon on Sunday, 22 July.

2018 has been a tough year for the Red Bull/Cannondale star who has been on the road to recovery following a nasty crash early in the year in the Western Cape and has been working slowly to get back to full fitness.

“I am going to go and race at the SA Marathon Champs in Grabouw this weekend to get some time in the legs. I haven’t raced at a national marathon championships for about three years so it is going to be an interesting race,” she said.

From there it is complete focus on SA Cross Country Champs on the Saturday before Scottburgh.

The national cross country showdown is in Bloemfontein this year which is going to make it a tough trip back to the KwaZulu-Natal, but Haw wants to be at the South Coast classic because the event has been an important part of her life growing up.

“I think I did the first one in 2009 and I was about 12 then so going to Scottburgh and racing feels like coming home. My whole family is from Scottburgh and we have a house there and do a lot of riding around there so I have a strong connection with the event and the region,” she explained.

With this year’s edition forming part of the Quattro ROAG Series, Haw is hoping that the field will be a strong one.
