Schools book their spot for hockey challenge

Ten teams will now go head to head at the Grand Finals.

TEN top teams have earned their spot at this year’s SPAR KZN School Girls’ Hockey Grand Finals at St Mary’s DSG on 21 and 22 July.

First to earn their berth at the finals was Ferrum Hoërskool in Newcastle. This will be the seventh time that Ferrum, representing the Northern KZN region will travel down to Durban to compete. Another team sharing Ferrum’s appearance record is St Anne’s College. St Anne’s in Hilton, raised the trophy once at the inaugural tournament in 2011.

Two teams that have both raised the Grand Finals trophy three times each are Durban Girls’ College and St Mary’s DSG. College are the only team in this tournament to have a one hundred per cent appearance record at the Grand Finals. Defending champs and hosts of the Grand Finals, St Mary’s DSG will be keen to retain their title, edging one ahead of College on stats.
