Illustrious Nissan Winter Classic returns to Shongweni Club

The programme this year is jam-packed with superb competition and great entertainment for the whole family.

VISITORS to this year’s Nissan Winter Classic can expect world-quality showjumping action and non-stop family entertainment at the Shongweni Club, until 17 June.

“We are very excited to be involved in this festival which provides both the equestrian community and visitors with a chance to witness an elevated level of showjumping performance in a remarkable part of the country. The Nissan Winter Classic continues to attract the best in the showjumping arena and has grown into a really dominant equestrian event. This energy, enthusiasm and camaraderie fits perfectly with the Nissan brand and we are proud to be involved with such a well-organised show,” said Mike Whitfield, Managing Director of Nissan SA.

A highlight on Saturday, 16 June will be an appearance by sky divers who are aiming to raise awareness for the SA Legion. At the polo match between an invitational side from the US and South Africa, four sky divers will land on the field to raise awareness for the SA Legion. Visitors will be encouraged to buy a paper plate for R20 which will be scattered on the field, and the four sky divers will each pick one up. The visitors whose plates are retrieved will each win one of four hampers.

The Nissan Winter Classic forms the third of five elite events that make up the South African leg of the World Cup Jumping qualifiers. It attracts international-level showjumping champions, among them Barry and Lorette Knowles-Taylor of Farnham Stables.

“We are super excited about hosting this prestigious event again this year. The programme this year is jam-packed with superb competition and great entertainment for the whole family. The Shongweni Club is a family-friendly venue and we look forward to welcoming all the competitors, visitors and spectators for another spectacular Nissan Winter Classic,” Shelly Moore, vice chairman of Shongweni Club, said.

Visitors attending this event will be able to take advantage of a number of additional activities, including the ever-popular Nissan vehicle display and test drive, a dedicated kids’ zone play area, and a variety of market stalls.
