Adaptive surf champs kick off in perfect conditions

The surf conditions were glassy, small and perfect for the contestants, and the day was filled with waves, joy and friendship.

LOCAL NPO ‘Made for More’ ran the Inaugural KZN Adaptive Surfing Champs on Saturday, 12 May at Addington Beach.

The surf conditions were glassy, small and perfect for the contestants, and the day was filled with waves and friendship.

Made for More, an NPO whose focus is on disability sport, host monthly adaptive surfing sessions in Durban for anyone who is differently abled and wanting to join the incredible surf therapy community.

In the adaptive surfing visually impaired division, Erynn Geddie and Danito Mondlane came up tops, with Dean Hart taking the adaptive surfing stand up division, Peter Glass came first in the adaptive surfing prone division and Grant Oosthuyzen took the title in the adaptive surfing prone assist division.

In the Expression Session, best wave was won by Dean Hart, longest wave was won by Nelisiwe Sibiya, most stoked surfer was Amuri Mwanza, first wave was won by Zonke Nyandeni, biggest wipeout went to Nelisiwe Sibiya and most waves went to Alulutho ‘Lulu’ Tshoba.

The third South African Adaptive Surfing Champs is scheduled to be held in Durban for the first time on 4 and 5 August.
