SA top schools compete in tennis festival

Clifton will take on top SA tennis schools in a festival at the weekend.

CLIFTON College will meet some of the country’s top tennis-playing schools on the courts at the 23rd annual Kearsney College National Tennis Festival this weekend.

Matches are played from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 May on the courts at Kearsney College, as well as Highbury and St Mary’s schools. The format is round robin which will yield a semi-final, final, play-off matches and an eventual winner.

Participating with Clifton are Affies and Pretoria Boys’ High, both from Pretoria, Grey College from Bloemfontein, Paul Roos and Rondebosch Boys’ High from the Western Cape, Selborne College from East London and hosts Kearsney.

The festival has become a highlight on the national schools’ tennis calendar and this year 56 competitors (seven per team) and 20 support coaches and staff will enjoy the event. An incredibly high standard of tennis is always evident from the top junior players in the country.

Festival organiser and Kearsney MIC of tennis, Anthony Willows said the festival had continued to attract the top South African tennis playing schools thanks to on-going sponsorship from Seeff Properties, Sportsman’s Warehouse, Wilson, Alpine Motors and Matchday performance drinks.
