Last call for Ironman challenge entries

Standard Bank IRONMAN 70.3 Durban is less than four weeks away.

TIME is running out and less than 170 entries now remain for the Standard Bank IRONMAN® 70.3® Durban event, which takes place on Sunday, 3 June at Suncoast, Durban.

This event will be the last South African race where local athletes can qualify for a slot at the 2018 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship, which will be hosted for the first time at Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa.

The World Championship is the pinnacle event in the global triathlon series. A total of 150 slots will be up for grabs at the Standard Bank IRONMAN 70.3 Durban, including 50 slots as part of the Women For Tri initiative. Women For Tri works to welcome and empower new female triathletes to be part of the sport’s continued growth.

For the upcoming event in Durban athletes can look forward to a swim course which takes athletes into the water at the harbour-wall side of uShaka Pier and an exit out on uShaka Beach, the bike course will have full highway road closure for space and safety.

The race will end with a fast, flat and picture-perfect run along the Promenade on the Durban beachfront.

Athletes from all over South Africa, as well as international athletes from more than 20 different countries have already signed up to participate in the Durban event.

It is expected that the remaining 170 entries will be secured by locals, eager to conquer the Durban coastline and stake a claim on an IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship slot.
