Brayden achieves black belt

Although challenging at times, Brayden Mc Carthy persevered to reaching his goal of black belt in eight years.

GLENWOOD High’s Brayden Mc Carthy was awarded a certificate for obtaining a black belt in karate at a ceremony recently.

Brayden started karate as a white belt candidate in 2011 with the International Federation of Funakoshi Shotokan Karate South Africa (IFFSK).

He progressed through his belt gradings and attended many tournaments and championships including the yearly regional and national championships where he always obtained a medal for first, second or third for his age/belt division.

Although challenging at times, Brayden persevered to reaching his goal of black belt in eight years. Brayden had his karate grading in November, where he obtained his Black Belt with IFFSK.

He is considering continuing to obtain his Dans with a possibility of opening a dojo in Bloemfontein where he will be studying this year.
