Ride for MRP Foundation is championing change

Over the years the annual fundraising challenge has steadily gained momentum, with this year’s edition boasting the largest peloton to date.

THE South African rugby legends, John Smit, Jeremy Thomson and Wayne Fyvie have pledged their support for the 2017 Ride for MRP Foundation punishing 606 km ride from Johannesburg to Durban on 3 and 4 December to raise funds for the foundation.

The rugby heroes will be part of the fifty-strong contingent from a diverse range of backgrounds: masters, juniors, women and development riders, aiming to raise its highest ever target of R1 000 000.

The ride starts at 4.30am in Nigel on 3 December, and will pass through Standerton, Volksrust, Newcastle and will arrive in Ladysmith after 14 hours of grueling cycling. On 4 December, the ride will resume at 4am in Ladysmith, descending through Estcourt, Mooi River, Nottingham Road, Midmar, Howick, Hilton, Pietermaritzburg and Hillcrest, where cyclists will be escorted by the Metro Police through Pinetown, before arriving at the finish line at the MRP Head Office in Durban.

As a youth development organisation, MRP Foundation’s mission is to empower youth from low-income communities as they journey from school into a career, empowering them to become part of the solution to end poverty and inequality. Since 2005 the MRP Foundation’s skills development programme, Jump Start, which teaches life skills and offers experiential training to young job seekers, has trained 22,045 unemployed young South Africans.

Of these, an incredible 11,205 previously unemployed youth have found employment in the local retail and supply chain industries across various companies.

Help raise R1 000 000 for programmes that empower and educate young South Africans by donating R20 to the MRP Foundation, and stand a chance to win a new Nissan Micra Active from CMH Nissan Durban.
