Quins triumphant in T20 final

Umbilo Harlequins Cricket Club's first team beat East Coast Cricket Club in a T20 final.

FIVE cricket matches were concluded by Umbilo Harlequins Cricket Club’s teams on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 October.

The first team, which won its solitary league match and five consecutive 20 over matches, played out the Challenge T20 final at Asherville on Saturday afternoon. Fast bowler Yusuf Abdulla bowled out East Coast’s opening batsman in the first over of the match and had the number three batter dismissed through a superb catch at slip by Kalvin Venter who took an even better catch at full diving stretch at the square leg position to remove their fourth batsman.

The batting team lost momentum when Kevin Kettle threw the ball 70m to the far end, where Mohammed Patel broke stumps with the opening batsman out of his ground. Thereafter right arm wrist spinner Dieter Liebenberg removed four batsmen during the opposition’s dire attempt to intensify their run rate in remaining over allocation. East Coast scored 127 runs for seven wicket in 120 deliveries.

Quins opening batsman Mohmadtalha Motala drives a delivery from East Coast Cricket Club’s right arm orthodox slow bowler to the long on boundary. Mohmadtalha top scored for Quins.

East Coast dismissed Quins’ number one batsman with the first delivery of the innings, however they consolidated quite admirably with 13 runs each from Kevin Kettle and Ryan Baronet. However, it was really through the intervention of middle order batsman Safri Faiyaz, who struck the ball aggressively scoring 35 runs, and opening batsman Momadtlalha Motala who scored 49 runs, that helped Quins through to an easy victory by six wickets with four overs remaining.
