Point to point car hire service to enhance race experience

A collaborative service between the race organisers and Avis directly addresses one of the Amashova’s biggest logistical challenges for riders.

TSOGO Sun Amashova Durban Classic cyclists can look forward to the newly introduced point to point Avis car rental drop off service where hired cars may be dropped off at the start in Pietermaritzburg.

This collaborative service between the race organisers and Avis directly addresses one of the Amashova’s biggest logistical challenges for riders.

Race organiser Annie Batchelder said: “This newly introduced service addresses logistical issues for out-of-town cyclists who asked for easier car hire and bike transportation logistics. Now they can drop off their car at the Golden Horse Casino on the morning of the race and not have to worry about returning it to Avis.”

The new service would even appeal to Durban-based cyclists who need to get themselves to Pietermaritzburg but have no need for a car in Durban. Avis also offers additional extras such as baby seats, bike racks and GPS rentals.

With only a month to go before the race takes place, the race organisers are encouraging entrants to take their time when registering. “Wait an hour or so after registration opens and the experience will be a lot more relaxed. Green numbers have a separate registration area where they can chat to fellow riders while enjoying refreshments,” said Batchelder. Cyclists may also sign up for a courier service where their race packs are delivered to their doors courtesy of DHL.

The starting points for each of the distances remain unchanged. The 106km race will begin at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall, the 65km race at the George Cato Primary School in Cato Ridge and the 35km race at Lillie’s Quarter in Hillcrest.

Tailored corporate and charity packages are available. Email: melissa@amashova.co.za. In keeping with the overall enjoyment of the day there will be food and festivities en route. Supporters and riders can enjoy the relaxed post-race vibe on the Suncoast Casino lawns.

Late entries for the event will be taken during race registration from Thursday 19 October to Saturday 21 October. These riders will not be seeded in the 106km event.
