Maharaj and Kuzwayo win big at KZN Sports Awards

KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union personalities won awards at the recent KZN Sports Awards.

TWO prominent personalities from the KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union, international player Keshav Maharaj and administrator Sanelisiwe Kuzwayo, won awards at the recent KZN Sports Awards.

Kuzwayo, who is the Rural and Township Development Manager at the KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union, took home the award for Administrator of the Year, while Maharaj claimed the Newcomer of the Year accolade.

For 10 years Kuzwayo has been heavily involved in organising the annual KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union, KZN Department of Sport and Recreation and Sunfoil Township Schools Tournament at Hilton College.

The 2017 edition of the tournament saw close to 300 cricketers from around the country take part in a six day tournament and for Kuzwayo it is no time to rest on her laurels as she continues to strive to reach the goal she set for herself when she took on the job two years ago.

The annual KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union, KZN Department of Sport and Recreation and Sunfoil Township Schools Tournament has grown immensely in the past 10 years and Kuzwayo believes that their goal is to maintain this high level of competition.

Following his stellar opening season with the South African national team that resulted in him becoming a regular fixture in the Proteas test set-up, Keshav Maharaj was another winner on the night when he bagged Newcomer of the Year.

The 27-year-old left-arm spinner beat fellow Hollywoodbets Dolphins and Proteas star Andile Phehlukwayo as well as Cell C Sharks flyhalf and Springbok Curwin Bosch to the award and was humbled as well as appreciative that his hard work has led to some recognition.
