Close game for Glenwood soccer boys

Northwood High School seemed not interested in scoring but rather in containing the Glenwood boys.

THE Glenwood 1st XI soccer took on Northwood High School in Durban North on Saturday.

The Glenwood 1st XI sustained a few injuries midweek as they successfully defended their crown of Umlazi District champions midweek, defeating Sishosonke Secondary School 6-0 in the final.

Glenwood started off strong, opting to revert to a 4-3-3 formation, which was a more attacking approach and it yielded in many chances being created early on. The Northwood goalkeeper and defence were under immense pressure and scrambled well to keep Glenwood out and keep the scores at 0-0.

It became clear from the onset that Northwood would seek to defend deep and try to catch Glenwood on the counter attack. After a barrage of shots onto the Northwood goalkeeper, he finally made a mistake in the 29th minute, spilling a long range shot from Devan Reid onto the path of Thomas Howard who duly swept it into the goals, scoring his very first goal for the Green Machine.

In the second half the game continued to be a tough tactical encounter between the two sides. Northwood High School seemed not interested in scoring but rather in containing the Glenwood boys as they continued to attack and create chances but poor finishing would keep the scores at 1-0 to Glenwood.
