Glenwood cricketers win match

Glenwood beat Michaelhouse by 41 runs in a match at the weekend.

THE Glenwood 1st XI played Michaelhouse in a much anticipated match at Dixons at the weekend.

Michaelhouse had a good win the week before and brought great momentum into the match. Glenwood won the toss and captain Jordan Grobbelaar opted to bat first. Glenwood started well and absorbed the pressure from the Michaelhouse bowlers. Due to the slowness of the wicket, runs were hard to come by so batsmen coming in found it difficult to rotate strike.

The batsmen had to work really hard for their runs right through the innings. Wickets fell at regular intervals with no solid partnerships built. Glenwood were eventually bowled out for 142 runs, 20 to 30 runs short of their target.

The Glenwood bowlers got to work straight after lunch and started well with a wicket in the first over. Cameron Reid and Daelen Fynn bowled well up front only going at one run to the over. Glenwood bowled and fielded well and never allowed Michaelhouse any room to settle in. Wickets fell at regular intervals and Glenwood controlled the game, pushing the run-rate to five an over in the last 10 overs.

Michaelhouse were eventually bowled out for 101 runs. Tristyn Dudas picked up 4/15 and Cameron Reid 2/7. Glenwood won by 41 runs.
