ENTRIES are open for the 2017 Standard Bank Ironman 70.3 Durban triathlon.

The 2017 edition of the popular triathlon featuring a 1.9km swim, 90.1km bike and 21.1km run, is set to take place on Sunday 18 June at Suncoast, Durban. This year, a record 3028 athletes from 34 different countries entered, with the event selling out in less than three months. The rapid uptake of entries indicates just how the sport of triathlon has grown in South Africa along with the popularity of Durban has a host venue.

Since the introduction of the event to Durban in 2015, it has become the race of choice for athletes looking to try their first triathlon and has attracted household names the likes of, John Smit, John Slade, Stefan Terblanche, Letshego Zulu and Caroline Wostmann to the sport. The 2016 event saw over 1100 first-time athletes participating with a further 1300 first-timers in 2015.
