All things eXtreme at DBN X festival

Durban's Bay of Plenty will be transformed into an extremely entertaining spot next weekend as Durban’s extreme beach festival returns with a collection of extreme sports events and entertainment.

ALL things extreme will come back to the beach for the second year at Durban’s extreme beach festival (DBN X FST) from 15 to 17 July bringing the Bay of Plenty beach screaming to life with a collection of extreme sports events and entertainment for all.

The festival will host a number of events with surfing taking centre stage at the historic Bay of Plenty beach.

Catch Surf Expressions Session will invite 12 pro surfers to surf two 15 minute expression session heats on Beater boards provided. The winner will score themselves a Catch Surf Beater Board and Catch Surf signature baggies. DBNxTAG is the festival’s signature surfing event where mixed 5-member inter-brand teams go head to head in an “old skool” tag format surf showdown. The event promotes good vibes on the sand and in the sea, with the winning team taking home R5000.

The Holmes Brothers Modern Retro Masters Challenge, where the surfer who rides all the boards the best wins epic prizes including a Holmes Brothers surfboard, also makes a return to the festival. Entry fee R100 at La Lucia HB store or email holmesbros4@telkomsa.net.

The Kimberley Diamond Cup Qualifiers will return to the Durban beachfront on Saturday, 16 July to find the top Durban skaters to qualify to compete at Kimberley Diamond Cup this October. Along with the top Rider Cup team, the top five previously unqualified skaters in each the TopGrom (13-) division and Open (14+) division will earn a spot into the KDC South African Skateboarding Championships in Kimberley. Fox “No Pro” BMX Jam will thrill spectators who can expect to see top BMX athletes compete in a Jam style format to see who can throw down the biggest, most technical and stylish tricks on their BMX bikes. The winner walks away with R2000.

Free public yoga sessions from 8am to 9am on Saturday and Sunday, just bring your mats.This year’s festival also has great live musical entertainment on the cards, with the Red Bull Studio Nights on Saturday featuring top artists from around South Africa. Friday and Sunday afternoons will play out with some great local music on the lawns. Saturday will see the I HEART Market on the lawns.
