Glenwood dominates Westville to win

Glenwood's Green Machine took on Westville High in a rugby clash on Saturday.

GLENWOOD travelled to Westville Boys’ High to take on a full strength and passionate Westville team on home soil on Saturday.

Glenwood showed their dominance throughout the game even after a tough first loss last week. Glenwood took on a barrage of spirited runs from Westville outside backs in the opening minutes of the game.

They stood strong in defence and capitalised off of Westville’s mistakes, and after a period of possession pounded the Westville line and eventually blindside flanker Austin Brummer broke through to open Glenwood’s account and take a converted 7 – 0 lead. Flanker Jonathan O’Neill, scored again taking the numbers to 14-0. Westville then scored their only points of the game through a penalty from their fullback due to a silly Glenwood error.

Glenwood then pressured the Westville line again and lock JJ van der Mescht broke through three tacklers to score under the poles adding to Glenwood’s lead 21 – 3.

The last act of the half went the way of Glenwood with Jonathan O’Neill scoring his second try of the game through a barging run to go under the poles. The conversion from Holtzhausen was missed, handing Glenwood a 26 – 3 lead at halftime.

The second half was a tense affair between the two teams with neither able to break through each other’s defensive lines leaving the final score 26 – 3 in favour of Glenwood.
