Team Game goes the extra mile

Game went the extra mile to raise funds for Community Chest at the Midmar Mile 2016.

THE old adage “take the plunge” evokes feelings of fear in many but not for Team Game.

In a bid to raise funds for charity, 110 Game swimmers rose up to the Midmar Mile challenge and “took the plunge for someone” for the 14th consecutive year.

Since 2003 Game has donated R1 000 for every swimmer who completed the race. This year Team Game raised a total of R110 000 for Community Chest and to date a total of just over R1.6 million has been raised for charitable causes through the Midmar Mile.

Last year, Game was awarded Community Chest’s “Top Corporate Donor” award for its contribution to the organisation.

Games customer and marketing director, Mark Turner said: “It is a great honour to be part of a fundraising initiative where so many people are actively involved. The Game swimmers have done us proud once again with their unwavering support for charity. Their commitment to participating in a cause that supports the less privileged is highly commendable.”

Community Chest is a non-profit organisation that provides resources to carefully selected community partners in and around Durban. They support over 60 welfare and development organisations.

The executive director of the Community Chest, Gordon McDonald said: “The Game and Community Chest Midmar Mile partnership is a fantastic fundraising initiative, whereby the staff and family members of Game/Massdiscounters are, through their own physical effort, able to raise funds for our vulnerable community, it is a wonderful day full of family and fun and of course it’s all for a good cause.”
