Quins lose to DHSOB

Umbilo Harlequins Cricket Club's first team lost to Clares by 197 runs.

THE Durban and District Cricket Union announced the cancellation of all scheduled league match cricket under its auspices except for Premier reserve games, on Friday afternoon.

Umbilo Harlequins first team however, played their third match of the new year against DHSOB/Rhythm on the Harlequins outfield.

Quins won the coin toss and elected to field first. DHSOB /Rhythm’s openers compiled a partnership in excess of 50 runs before left arm orthodox slow bowler Josh Henry had one opposition opening batsman stumped by wicket keeper Ryan Baronet.

Soon afterwards Josh trapped the next batsmen leg before wicket and pace bowler Kevin Kettle had the other opener caught. DHSOB/Rhythm were 81 runs for four wickets when Kettle had the number four batsman adjudged leg before wicket. However DHSOB/Rhythm’s number four batsman played an immaculate innings, scoring 124 runs, taking his team to a most commendable total of 275 runs.

Right arm wrist spinner Dieter Liebenberg captured four wickets for Quins in 10 overs conceding 38 runs, fast bowler Kettle took two wicket for 42 runs in 10 overs. Opening bowler Adam Mather claimed two wickets for 50 runs in 10 overs and left arm orthodox slow bowler Josh Henry took two wickets for 56 runs in nine overs.

Quins' innings was equally as poor as their fielding endeavour. Opening batsman Sheldon Spindler played a responsible innings seeing off the new ball attack compiling 10 runs. Trevian Peter got 22 runs in the middle order and Ryan Baronet nudged the ball around flawlessly at the back end of Quins' innings with the occasional boundary to achieve 23 runs.

Quins were dismissed in the 23rd over losing the match by 197 runs.

Quins 1st team take on Simplex Reservoir Hills Cricket Club’s first team next Sunday; the 2nd team play a 20 over group match.

All other teams have home matches except for the Saturday team which has a bye.

Coaching for U11s, U13s and senior members will continue as usual.
