Quins lose to log leaders

Umbilo Harlequins Cricket Club's first team lost to Clares by nine wickets.

DURBAN and District Cricket Union formally announced the cancellation of all scheduled league match cricket for the weekend of 16 and 17 January, however, Umbilo Harlequins’ first team took on log leaders, Clares, in a KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union stream one Challenge League match at Asherville on Sunday.

Despite the wicket being protected with rain proof covers, spasmodic rainfall during Friday and some intense showers on Saturday, the wicket didn’t have sufficient time to cure, resulting in a fair amount of water content.

Quins elected to bat first on the damp wicket and were dismissed for 35 runs in 21 overs. Clares’ innings commenced on a wicket which may have improved marginally. Clares just required five overs to surpass Quins’ total, losing one wicket during their successful endeavour. Clares won by nine wickets.

With the exception of the fourth and fifth sides, all Quins’ teams have scheduled league matches on Sunday. The U11s and first team have home matches at Quins on Sunday morning. The third team verse Hillary Malvern 3 at the Fairfield Park venue, The U13 side have a 30 over youth league match at Cato Manor 4 against Mpumalanga and the second team have the first of their 20 over group matches.
