Silver Saints too strong for Quins

Umbilo Harlequins lost theirr final 20 over group match of the current season in a morning match against Silver Saints.

UMBILO Harlequins first team completed its final 20 over group match of the current season in a morning match against Silver Saints at Penguin Street Chatsworth on Sunday 11 October.

The predominantly pace attack of Quins performed admirably in delivering an acceptable line, initially capturing wickets at random and being miserly in conceding runs. However, Quins' initial zeal seemed to wane toward the last eight overs, allowing the Saints lower middle order to accumulate more runs than they ought to have ending up on 117 runs for nine wickets at the conclusion of 20 overs.

Quins’ execution of their innings was calculated, clinical and successful, as they achieved their victory target with a few deliveries remaining, losing five wickets during their endeavour. Opener Ryan Baronet scored 19 runs, Dieter Liebenberg was undefeated on 34 runs, Kevin Kettle not out on 16 runs. This team will have a two week end interlude, prior to the 50 over league match format starting on 1 November.

Other team results: Quins 2nds vs Newlands East/Kensea: Newlands East made 203 runs with Quins making 145 runs (John Piek captured four wickets, Sheldon Spindler scored 20 runs, John Piek made 33 runs, G Riddle made 40 runs).

Quins 3rds vs DHS/ Rhythm 3: Quins made 232 runs, DHS made 154 runs (Warren Torgius 105 runs, John Meintjies made 38 runs, John Meintjies 3/11, Shaun Nichols 2/7).

Quins U13s vs ACC: Quins made 142 runs, ACC made 74 runs (Tyler Jordan made 31 runs, Corben Stubbs made 29 runs, Ryan Wood made 17 runs, Jaan Fredericks 2/11).

Members are reminded that a four ball golfing event has been arranged for Saturday 24 October. Tee-off will be at noon. With the exception of the first team all other sides have scheduled league matches to fulfil this weekend, with the two junior teams and the second team at home. The rest have matches away from home.
